Three Counties Asylum paid Hudsons £2.14 shillings on Monday the 28th Feb 1887 for attendants whistles, the whistles cost three and a half old pennies each. This was an expensive whistle but by far better quality than the others on the market, Hudsons charged an extra penny because theirs were patented.
The minimum order in those days was 144 calls, 144 calls at three and a half old pennies each amounts to exactly £2.14 shillings so we know that TCA purchased the minimum order.
£2.14 shillings amounts to approx £130.44p in todays money.
The hospital order information kindly researched and contributed by Richard Knight, author of the Three Counties Asylum website http://www.threecountiesasylum.co.uk.
